Re: Alesis Fusion PSU . . .

Same problem with the EX5 PSU. Yamaha no longer sell replacements or repair them and neither do their approved UK repair company. On the plus side the Yamaha A3000 sampler uses the same PSU (and SCSI) card, and you can pick them up for peanuts, which is what I did to resurrect my EX5 with failed PSU...

Re: The Cat Thread

I know that is an option, but I don't believe in putting collars on outdoor cats. A good scare should do the trick. I Meant put the collars on your cat(s) not the feral ones - should keep them out unless they are smart enough to learn how to "tailgate" para :D I meant cats that go ...

Re: Yamaha Montage 7 + Korg Kronos 2 Jamming

An SY99 was $4,000 in 1993, which is about $6,700 today, or about £5,200. So the Montage or a Kronos is a bargain compared to the SY. I saw this video a few days back. Not bad. Whilst both sound good, the EPs on the Kronos sounded better to my ears (well they are not static samples). I hate the Kron...

Re: omoroca says Hi!

Hello and welcome. Congratulations on the SY77; it is still a great sounding synth. For a 90's digital workstation it can sound amazingly analog. I started with an SY77 and gravitated to a TG77 and SY99. Why both? Well the SY77/TG77 have quite a different sound character to the SY99 due to a more li...

Re: The Cat Thread

I wouldn't mind him helping himself to the odd free meal. This one is getting a bit too regular and disturbing our sleep! You know it's not our cat as the way he eats sounds different. Funny what wakes you up!

Re: The Cat Thread

My biggest pain in the butt right now is a new cat in the neighbourhood who has discovered our cat flaps, and is coming in through garage and kitchen to eat our cat's food at 2 or 3 in the morning. He moves too fast when he hears you, so time to set the flaps to "in only" to catch the bugg...

It's funny how old threads come back to life. I had a lot of fun re-reading through this and the stories and seeing all the pictures.

Re: Finally understood:Computer contra Workstation

I'm lucky in that the gig income pays for a lot of toys - I stick it to one side, my sales of x.factory librarians is also a small stream of income that adds to it, and the occasional works bonus helps pays for the big ticket items, and one is about due..... I could only afford the Kronos in 2014 as...

Re: Finally understood:Computer contra Workstation

I think it is horses for courses. Are you a slightly less technical musician, who wants a great workstation with integrated features that allows you to record and arrange on on the device a well? That will be a Kronos, sir, or similar from the other big vendors, noting that, as Saul says, the Montag...

Re: Oh My! - How far we have come . . . .

I never had Ataris, but was a loyal Amiga user from 1988 to 2001, going through different models and ending up with an A4000. Commodore had gone bust many years before that, but it was a testament to the design an elegance of the Amiga that it soldiered on for a long time with just 3rd party support...

Re: Oh My! - How far we have come . . . .

Oh, you were so far behind on a PC platform. :) I was a Commodore Amiga man, which had four channel 8 bit sampled sound built into the box, hi res 4096 colour graphics (in HAM - Hold And Modify - Mode, sprites and bit blitting, multitasking windowed software that could run in 128K of RAM. This at th...

Re: Dead OS or just empty batteries? - Strange values / System crash when using disk drive

The global parameters are stored in RAM like the patches, so if the batteries are longer good enough to retain the contents, this is why the global parameters are garbage.

Re: Dead OS or just empty batteries? - Strange values / System crash when using disk drive

Hi, I would change the batteries on both boards before anything else, as per Saul's post which links to the guide that I have done. With modern synths from DX7 onwards strange things can happen if the static RAM batteries are dead. Do that first and take it from there..... You seem to be saying that...
