Re: A bit about SysEx (restored).

System 'Elusive' indeed, Chris. For most people. Thanks Saul, I had a lot of what I wrote already saved in a text file where I originally wrote it. (I know, what a cheat!) But I wanted to restore it, if I could, with the extra text that I'd put in here, after I created the original. So it was ...

Re: Midi message for changing bank - and some frustration

Oh, yes!

A MIDI hub. Quite so, Chris.
It takes the output from one MIDI port (might be USB) and splits it out to multiple MIDI interfaces dependent upon channel. Clever.

Re: A bit about SysEx (restored).

One of the wonderful things about XGworks is that, built right into the software, are most of the SysEx messages for Yamaha equipment up to the late nineties, perhaps even later. Accessing these commands is simply a case of selecting the correct option within Xgworks, and then choosing from the list...

Re: A bit about SysEx (restored).

Okay, here goes with episode 2. So, what did we glean from the table? Let me try to summarise it. Both input sockets can be set to either 'mic' or 'line' sensitivity. A 'Bank Select' message decides which. The inputs can be switched on/off and effects can be added to each input. The 'Program Number ...

A bit about SysEx (restored).

From elsewhere in the forum, David ( originally 'soconfused' now 'lessconfused' ) asked whether and how he could control the analogue input of an MU128 using SysEx commands. Let's face it many experienced MIDI users, experts even, turn pale when somebody asks them about SysEx. His query gave me the ...

Re: Midi message for changing bank - and some frustration

As Chris has pointed out, 'cascading' MIDI devices, out to in, thru to in and so on can introduce its own problems. The whole MIDI stream is intercepted by device one and is then regenerated, I'm sure you've looked at the mechanism in the MMA spec. http://i1203.photobucket.com/albums/bb393/SysExJohn...

Re: New to Yamahaforum

So as a result of all this "history" - we DO in fact have have a quite serious technical backgound going on here - and I've not even mentioned Brian Allan, Miks, Jima, Sonus and others here - who CONTINUE to amaze, down among the bits and the bytes . . . . How can we NOT be surprised then...

Re: Midi message for changing bank - and some frustration

Great stuff OutOf,

I feel I have to say, Logic displays its M/B/T song position in a very weird way IMHO.

It takes a little time for it all to sink in, but "it's Logical Captain".

Re: Midi message for changing bank - and some frustration

Two more observations about TPQN: (1) If a manufacturer recommends waiting a certain number of ticks after a particular MIDI message, they really mean a certain number of microseconds, so you might need to adjust the specified number of ticks by some factor depending on the TPQN setting that you're...

Re: Midi message for changing bank - and some frustration

Ah, yes, Michael! 384 PPQN would be a good one, divisible by three to render good timing for triplets. I suspect you're absolutely right about 1920 for the latest models, I'm quite sure I'm living in the past with my copy of Sonar 7 PE from many years ago. Here's a screen shot from HexEdit showing t...

Re: Midi message for changing bank - and some frustration

Sorry peeps! Just to be precise about ticks (and I already know that I'm an old pedant), but strictly speaking ticks get converted into delta times when incorporated into a MIDI file. Ticks are not measured in a conventional time as we know it, i.e. hours minutes and seconds, but as a subdivision of...

Re: New to Yamahaforum

Welcome to the forum, John from another John. Perhaps I'd better add another character to my name to distinguish between the two of us. A blues band from the 60's? Did you by any chance play at the Arbor Youth club in Pyrford? If so I may have caught your act. ONC eh? Me too, as an electrical engine...

Re: Midi message for changing bank - and some frustration

You did Jim, Michael, you've never experienced lazy 'til you've seen me. Open the pdf manual, go down the headings list, see 'Advanced Edit Features' (for some reason List View is always in the 'advanced' section, dunno why), look in there and scan down it quickly, picking up the salient features. S...

Re: Midi message for changing bank - and some frustration

C'mon guys, This ain't rocket science.  Hurry along to chapter 15 of the Logic manual "Advanced Edit Features". Make sure that the two headings "Controllers" and "Progr. Change" are the ones highlighted. Now scoot down to the section describing how to edit o...
