Re: RE: Sony mp3 Walkman (help?)

Never mind Paul, Some fifty years ago I certainly got lost in the complexity of all the stuff I was trying to comprehend at the time. What sorted it for me was reading and re-reading articles about pre-amps and SNRs and so on. After half a dozen attempts it began to sink in. Looking back, I do recal...

Re: RE: Sony mp3 Walkman (help?)

Hi Paul and Saul, and Chris too, So pleased that made some sense. I wasn't sure it did when I read it afterwards. (I see some typoes have crept in too, must rectify those.) Naxos, yes, I have a good few of those CDs in my collection, and not always of Eastern European orchestras. Helmut Mühler Brühl...

Re: MOX6: Change tempo and time signature within song?

It's very doubtful, IMHO, that one could 'draw in' a rit. or ral. on any hardware sequencer.
Methinks a sequencer is the only way for that. :? 8O :o

And what about Time Signatures? :?:
Are you able to change them in a similar way? :?:
And can you change the Key Signature too? :?:

Re: RE: Sony mp3 Walkman (help?)

Hi Paul, Well, when I say a remix, that doesn't necessarily imply that individual instruments/voices are deliberately set to new levels to make them stand out, where they perhaps didn't before. Perhaps I should have used the term re-mastering . I'm thinking about the whole process that is used to ma...

Re: RE: Sony mp3 Walkman (help?)

Hi Paul, Sorry not to respond yesterday ... busy day! I realise, in retrospect that I should have chucked in a few smilies after my "C'mon guys ..." remark. ;-) It wasn't meant in a serious way. So my apologies for that omission. I thoroughly agree with everything that was said in t...

Re: Oh My! - How far we have come . . . .

Oh yus! I had one of them Atari thingies too. That's where I first started to learn about MIDI in some depth. Programmed a little utility to handle bulk dumps from a Yamaha HS6 organ. It would accept a dump and reload it. I never got to find out all the parameter settings for the HS6 though, so I co...

Re: RE: Sony mp3 Walkman (help?)

Of course, when you're recording individual tracks to make a mix, then absolutely use 24 bit, this means that the recorded noise will never be a problem when many tracks are combined. The problem is that, as well as the audio we want to be recorded in the final mix down, there will always be some no...

Re: RE: Sony mp3 Walkman (help?)

C'mon guys, don't you read my posts any more? Not 41kHz, nor 44kHz (closer) but 44.1 kHz see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_Disc_Digital_Audio . No-one (but bats) can hear up to 48kHz. That's what 96kHz sampling gives. We can only hear up to 20kHz when we're young. From the early twentie...

Re: Oh My! - How far we have come . . . .

My first was a SoundBlaster 16 card. It must have been ISA. The package I bought, in an enormous box, had some speakers in it too. Ah! And a CD drive too. (My recollection is that it was around 400 quid. Could that be right?) Then I added a Yamaha DB50-XG daughter board to it, and suddenly I had &qu...

Re: MOX6: Change tempo and time signature within song?

In the Mox6 reference manual I read something about there being a "tempo track". That should certainly be editable to change tempo, I would have thought. ;-) Whether to insert a time sig. or key change is another matter. I can't, at the moment, find where it explains how to edit that. I'm ...

Re: RE: Sony mp3 Walkman (help?)

Another idea: Musicians often hear very badly...because of headphones,To loud music,... ask a drummer or heavy hard rock player. For me MP3 is a 50% loss of WAV quality. And it sounds artificial...for me! Not for others. How about an online audiometry - Hearing tests? Just for fun? The hearing is v...

Re: MOX6: Change tempo and time signature within song?

Well, if it's a MIDI song you're talking about, just enter the meta data to what you require, one command for tempo another for time signature.

Re: RE: Sony mp3 Walkman (help?)

Have any of you, I wonder, watched the Horizon TV programme from a while back? It showed a phenomenon known as the "McGurk effect". Look for the McGurk effect on you tube. A there's a picture of a man saying "ba, ba, ba ...". Close your eyes and yes it's "ba ba ba ..."....

Re: Set SYSEX ID for Yamaha TX816 / TF1 Modules?

Hi Morbank,

I'll try to find out some more.
But ... I would have thought that the TX816 would automatically assign a different number to each one.
If so, then it's then just a case of addressing them one by one, by rack position I'd guess.
But I am guessing.

Re: RE: Sony mp3 Walkman (help?)

If the difference is so "chalk and Cheese" then it's likely to be some other process going on rather than just recording techniques. If (N.B. IF) it was the original album that was recorded into FLAC format, albeit at a higher sample rate, then you cannot create a better quality file than ...
