My psr 290 won't work... Help!

Unread post by dylan0704 » Wed Mar 01, 2017 5:31 pm

Hello,
A couple years back i got my granddad's old psr 290. I haven't played it for about 2 or 3 years and recently i had the idea to try and play on it but it doesnt work.
When i turn it on i hear the speakers pop and the LED screen turns on but none of the keys or buttons work. I have no idea what's cousing the problem and i couldn't find a solution on the internet myself.
Do any of you know what the problem could be, or how i could fix it?

Hi Dylan, welcome to the forum :)

Is anything displayed on the screen when you turn it on?

Have you tried a reset?
All data can be initialized and restored to the factory preset condition by
turning on the power while holding the highest (rightmost) white key and
highest (rightmost) black key on the keyboard. “All Mem CLr” will appear
briefly on the display.
Where was your PSR290 stored over the years since you played it last? Any chance damp could have gotten in there?

Hey Saul, thanks for the reply.

When i turn the screen on it only lights up bleu but it doesnt display anything on it.

I tried the reset but nothing happened. :(

The keyboard had been in my brothers room last 2 years and he just told me that his ex-girlfriend had played on it about a year ago and it worked fine. i dont think it could have gotten wet.

Things like this are incredibly frustrating...and not too uncommon with keyboards unfortunately.

Are you using the original power adapter for the PSR?

It's indeed pretty frustrating.

I am using the original power adapter.

could it be a problem with the adapter?
do you think should i try to get some batterys tomorrow and see if it would work then?

It's worth trying batteries as at least it would eliminate there being an issue with the adapter.

Alright,
So i thought i had the original adapter(never realy thought about it just got it from my granddad with the keyboard) but i couldnt see any yamaha logo's on it. I was looking at it to see what it was called to look up what they cost if i had to replace it. I suddenly notice a switch on it with a few settings changing the voltage. Turns out it somehow accidentaly got turned waay down. i turned it up tried the keyboard and it worked.....

I gave myself a big facepalm'o shame...

Well my problem is solved thanks for the help Saul!
